Cultural Conversations Make a Difference
I had the privilege of training with Jon Eagle, Sr. in Missouri a few months back and having spent time with him and hearing his stories and insight, felt compelled to invite him here to speak to our Central Pennsylvania community.
About Jon: Jon is Hunkpapa Lakota and a nationally known consultant/trainer with 27 years of experience working with children, families, and communities. He has 17 years of experience consulting with tribal, state and federal agencies and is considered an expert on the Wraparound Process, Systems of Care, Cultural Competency, Leadership and Equine Therapy. Additionally, he has done numerous training and workshops at tribal, state and national conferences across the United States and Canada.
During his career, Jon has served on many tribal, state and national advisory councils. He is currently a member of the consultant pool at the National Cultural Competence Center for Children's Mental Health, Center for Child and Human Development, Georgetown University, Washington, DC., and a founding member of the Northern Plains Equine Assisted Practitioners.
He is also the owner of Sung Nagi Kici Okiju: Becoming one with the Spirit of the Horse, LLC and an independent contractor for Vroon VanDenBerg LLP. He also serves as a grant reviewer for the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Washington, DC.
More directly related to my work, Jon has spent a lifetime learning to develop relationships with horses and people. He is certified to provide Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) and Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) by the Equine Assisted Growth And Learning Association (EAGALA).
Jon shared with me some remarkable stories about the Standing Rock movement and what it means for us all, now and going forward.
Below, you'll see a short video of Jon talking the events at Standing Rock.
