Digging around into the podcast world and found this, "The One You Feed"--the hosts explore the old parable about choosing which wolf you feed (the good one or the bad one) and how it grows with your attention.
The hosts talk to a wide range of experts--from authors like don Miguel Ruiz to less well-known thinkers, authors and personalities. A great dive into a very big subject.

David Abram's Becoming Animal: An Earthly Cosmology just kinda keeps taking me deeper.
Not only is he a master of words--a true master--but his ruminations about things of the world is deeply intricate. How we humans act within--and are acted upon--by nature points in the direction of a deeper entanglement in the wildness of this world than I've ever considered.
Highlighted below is an example of his musings on thinking--how thoughts behave, analogous to so many other things in nature.

Well...now that the new administration has gotten everyone's attention in unprecedented ways, it makes sense that we try to communicate more clearly and effectively with our lawmakers, right?
There's a app for that.
If you're interested in staying engaged with your representatives, check out countable.
By inputting your zip code, the system tells you exactly who your representatives are and what is coming up for vote in Congress. Even better, you can click yes or now on how your representatives should vote. Super easy and bi-partisan.
It's a brilliant way to help the younger generation stay informed and an easy way to let your voice be heard, no matter your age.

Stumbled across Shinola in Boston late last year. The sleekness of the store caught my attention first--a totally different vibe from the frenetic feel of an urban mall. Wandered in and was greeted by a fabulous, personable employee who invited me to browse at my leisure. They sell beautiful watches, exquisite leather goods and just really cool stuff that's beautifully displayed.
If there's a savior for brick and mortar stores in the 21st century, www.shinola has the blueprint.
AND there's their groovy backstory--the company was founded on the idea that it was possible to bring manufacturing back to Detroit. From their website:
"We build our goods to last, but of all the things we make, American jobs might just be the thing we're most proud of."
If you get the chance, visit their site. Even better, meander into one of their stores and notice how you feel in that space. Sublime. Calm. Refreshed.

Came across these candles recently--What a great idea! Each one is hand poured natural soy wax. New York, shown above, has "hints of Adirondack forest floor, apple orchards and pumpkin."

Just started this book and I'm in love! If you believe, as I do, that everything really is connected, you'll be enchanted by this book too. A must-read as the impact of humans on the environment continues to be (as it should) a part of our daily dialogue.
Picked this book up at a great independent bookstore/cafe on Newbury Street in Boston. David Wood goes deep into the aftermath of our ongoing war on terror. I mentioned on my Instagram post that this should be required reading for all of our policymakers, and the more I read it, the more I believe that. The stories and interviews are candid, heartbreaking and sometimes hilarious. Wood spends a lot of time on post- 9/11 research to underscore where we are in this situation right now.

This guy--pictured above and at left enduring my affection--he's a bit of an anomaly, breed-wise. My daughter talked me into buying a DNA kit to see exactly what his mix was and as these things go, I'm always game.
She heard about a test on one of her social networks-- www.embarkvet.com. I did a little research about the company. Aside from their really beautiful, clean packaging (you'll see what I mean if you order it), I loved that the information they gather through their DNA testing is passed along to Cornell University for research. And money goes to rescue groups from every kit ordered. Win, win, win!
We got the test, swabbed and sent it back. About nine weeks later, they sent along the results, which really surprised me! Husky we figured, but the other two breeds mixed in? Really?
Here's the results link, in case you want to check it out: embk.me/hobsonfergus.
